Star Wars fans take note! You don't have to travel to a galaxy far, far away to experience George Lucas's enthralling universe in a real-life setting. High anticipation over the release of The Last Jedi has turned to even more excitement as Walt Disney World in Orlando continues to work towards unveiling Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, an expansion to their theme park in 2019.
If you grew up with Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Yoda and Darth Vader, this will be a nostalgic return to the past, while providing a physical, interactive experience for your kids who’ve grown up with the latest trilogy. Imagine being able to sit in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon or being able to walk into an X-Wing, one of two full-size replicas that will be coming to the 14-acre expansion of Walt Disney World.
Galaxy’s Edge is fewer than 15 miles from both our Regal Oaks Resort and our Encantada Resort, so no matter which CLC World Resort you and your family stay at, it’s a short hop to what could be the ultimate geek-out attraction. Our travel department can help set you up with theme park tickets. (Pro-tip: Buying multiple-day passes can significantly cut the cost of visiting Disney; a seven-day pass, for example, almost halves the daily admission rate.) And shuttles run between Walt Disney World and CLC World Florida Resorts, so you can relax and focus on having fun.
The theme of Galaxy’s Edge is a planet on the outer edge of the Star Wars galaxy. Picture a fully interactive experience of a once-vibrant trading port now populated with humanoids, aliens and droids, smugglers, bounty hunters and other interstellar shady characters. Two of Galaxy Edge’s signature rides will be The Millennium Falcon and another that puts visitors right in the middle of a battle between The First Order and the Resistance.
Walt Disney World is working on schedule to open Galaxy Edge in 2019 (and in California plans to open the same exhibit just a bit earlier). It will also feature shops and restaurants for a truly immersive experience. This has the potential to be a once-in-a-life-time adventure for the family, combining Disney magic with George Lucas outer-space experiences. Start planning your vacation to the planet Battu (the name of the gateway planet and setting of the theme park) and May The Force Be With You.
